Accra, Ghana — President John Dramani Mahama has bid farewell to the outgoing British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, at the Jubilee House in a ceremony marked by warm diplomatic goodwill and mutual respect. The farewell meeting, held on Thursday, celebrated the longstanding relations between Ghana and the United Kingdom and the diplomat’s contributions during her tenure.

“You have served your country with great dedication, and your work has helped to enhance the historic bond between our two peoples,” President Mahama remarked. “We are grateful for your support in areas such as education, where the UK has contributed significantly to training and capacity-building.”
High Commissioner Harriet Thompson, who began her tenure in Ghana in 2021, expressed her appreciation to the Ghanaian government and people for their hospitality and collaboration over the years. She noted that her time in Ghana had been personally and professionally fulfilling, and she reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to continuing its partnership with Ghana.
“Ghana has been more than a posting — it has been a home,” she said. “I am proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I leave with cherished memories and a deep respect for Ghana’s vibrant democracy and warm spirit.”
As the ceremony concluded, the President wished her success in her next assignment, emphasizing that Ghana would always remain a friend and partner to the United Kingdom.
