The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially extended the deadline for the 2025 Senior High School (SHS) selection process for Junior High School (JHS) candidates to Wednesday, June 25, 2025. This announcement comes as a response to calls from students, parents, and teachers for more time to complete the school selection process accurately and thoughtfully.
In a statement released on Friday, GES stated that the extension is aimed at ensuring that all final-year JHS students have ample opportunity to make informed decisions regarding their next phase of education. The original deadline, which was scheduled to end earlier in June, has now been pushed back to accommodate students who may have faced challenges accessing the necessary information or support in selecting their preferred schools.
According to the statement, GES is working closely with the Ministry of Education, regional and district education offices, and heads of schools to ensure that every student receives adequate guidance during this critical stage. Educational stakeholders are also being encouraged to step up efforts to engage with students and parents on the SHS selection guidelines, placement procedures, and available options under the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
GES emphasized that the extended timeline should be used productively, advising students and guardians not to wait until the last minute. The service also urged parents to actively participate in the selection process, especially in reviewing the choices to ensure alignment with the studentβs academic strengths, interests, and career aspirations.
Additionally, the statement warned against the activities of individuals or groups who claim to have the power to influence school placements. GES reiterated that the school placement system is strictly merit-based and fully automated, with no room for external manipulation.
As the new deadline approaches, GES has assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to facilitate a smooth, transparent, and fair placement process. JHS students are encouraged to seek support from their teachers and school heads to make well-informed choices that will set the foundation for their educational and professional futures.
