Asante Kotoko Lift 10th FA Cup Title with Dramatic Win Over Golden Kick FC

Asante Kotoko secured their 10th FA Cup title in thrilling fashion on Sunday with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over underdogs Golden Kick FC at the Accra Sports Stadium. The win cements the Porcupine Warriors' legacy as one of Ghana’s most decorated football clubs and marks a triumphant end to what had been a turbulent season.

Golden Kick FC, a lower-tier side that had defied the odds to reach the final, showed no signs of intimidation as they opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through a well-placed effort from striker Benjamin Asamoah. The goal stunned the Kotoko faithful and energized the crowd as the match suddenly took on the narrative of a classic upset.

Kotoko, however, responded with composure and grit. Their equalizer came just before halftime, when Isaac Oppong latched onto a loose ball in the box and fired it past the Golden Kick goalkeeper. The second half saw the Premier League giants dominate possession, but Golden Kick remained dangerous on the counterattack.

The breakthrough came in dramatic fashion in the 87th minute. Substitute Steven Mukwala rose highest to meet a pinpoint cross from Emmanuel Keyekeh, heading home the winner and sending the Kotoko fans into wild celebrations. The late goal broke the resistance of Golden Kick, who had defended valiantly throughout the second half.

Kotoko head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum praised his players for their resilience. "It was a tough game, but we showed our championship mentality. Credit to Golden Kick—they gave us a real fight," he said during the post-match interview.

The victory not only adds to Kotoko’s rich silverware cabinet but also secures their spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, offering them a shot at continental glory.

Golden Kick FC may have fallen short, but their inspiring journey to the final has earned them nationwide respect. For Kotoko, however, the night belonged to history, redemption, and celebration, as they lifted their 10th FA Cup title under the floodlights of Accra.
