After a memorable decade, Medeama parted ways with club great Kwasi Donsu.
Longtime captain and club legend Kwasi Donsu has formally announced his departure from Medeama SC, after an incredible ten years with the Tarkwa-based team. With one year left on his contract, the 29-year-old midfielder departs with mutual consent.
Due to his crucial part during one of Medeama's most prosperous periods, Donsu's name is inscribed in the club's history.
He led the Yellow and Mauves to one Ghana Premier League championship, two FA Cup victories, and several continental campaigns throughout his ten-year tenure, including trips to the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup group rounds.
Donsu has developed into a key player at the center of Medeama's midfield since making his debut eleven years ago. The midfield maestro, known for his lethal set-piece skills, scored more than 40 goals in all competitions, which is remarkable for a player in his position.
He scored 15 goals in 2015–16, 10 of which were from free kicks, making it one of the most memorable seasons in recent domestic football history. Donsu demonstrated a variety of free-kick skills that constantly left goalkeepers frozen to the spot, from thundering long-range efforts to dipping curlers.
Donsu expanded his horizons in 2019 by spending a season on loan at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, a USL Championship team, in the US. There, he improved his skills and gained invaluable foreign experience.
The largest-ever player transfer between a Ghanaian club and a single European team occurred in August 2023 when Donsu joined nine other Medeama players to join Sirens FC of the Maltese Premier League.
With one year left on his current deal, the two parties have decided to part ways amicably, which Medeama thinks shows the club's desire to remember one of its finest players.
More than just a player, Kwasi Donsu leaves Medeama as a representation of devotion, reliability, and skill. His influence on Tarkwa and Ghanaian football in general will live on for many years to come.
