After years of tenacity and hard effort, Ghanaian goalie Benjamin Asare has called his first senior national team call-up, and subsequent performances for the Black Stars the "perfect moment" in his career.
In March, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying round, the 32-year-old Hearts of Oak goalie made his eagerly anticipated Black Stars debut.
He played in two decisive wins, a resounding 3-0 victory over Madagascar in Morocco and a 5-0 thumping of Chad in the Accra Sports Stadium. He kept clean sheets in both games and solidified his position as Ghana's new number one.
Asare, who transferred from the demoted Accra Great Olympics to Hearts of Oak, thought back on the moment of his breakthrough.
Benjamin Asare remarked, "I believe everything has its time." "I felt like this was the correct time, even though I had already been called up for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Good things come to those who are patient, so the proverb goes. When things finally shift, it feels completely different because going through difficult times changes your perspective.
"I have always wanted to do this, and by God's grace, I have accomplished it. I thank God that I have this chance.
When Ghana lost 2-1 to Nigeria in the 2025 Unity Cup semifinal, the seasoned goalie gave up his first goal for his country.
Following his benching for the third-place playoff, the Black Stars defeated Trinidad and Tobago 4-0 at London's GTech Community Stadium.
Benjamin Asare is optimistic about the future and committed to helping Ghana make a comeback to the international scene in spite of the Unity Cup defeat.
"We want to make it to the FIFA World Cup in 2026," he stated. This is even more significant because we were not present at the previous Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana will definitely qualify, in my opinion. We possess the ability, the conviction, and the backing.
