Abdul Karim Zito, the interim coach of Asante Kotoko, has acknowledged that he took on a difficult role after Prosper Narteh Ogum left.

Midway through the season, Zito, a Porcupine Warriors legend, returned to the team after Prosper Narteh was let go due to subpar performance.

Zito led the team to the FA Cup victory and finished third in the Ghana Premier League despite having little time.

At the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, Kotoko defeated Golden Kick FC 2-1 in the championship game, but only after a controversial penalty in stoppage time.

"The work I did was not simple at all. After the game, he remarked, "I am fine with the players now, even though I did not know them."

Both teams ended the half in a tie after Kwame Opoku gave Kotoko the lead, and midfielder Bless Ege equalized with a spectacular long-range free kick.

Referee Selorm Yao Bless pointed to the spot after Kwame Opoku collided with goalie Kelvin Saaba during stoppage, which was the game-changing moment.

But the seasoned attacker did not make a mistake, cleanly converting the penalty to give Kotoko the win.

The Ghanaian powerhouses will play for Ghana in the 2025–2026 CAF Confederation Cup after winning the championship.

Local league improvement is a priority for the government, according to Sports Minister Kofi Adams.

Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has reaffirmed Ghana's commitment to reviving interest in local football.

In recent years, the Ghana Premier League has seen many difficulties, such as match-fixing and subpar officiating, which have led to a decline in fan participation and a loss of appeal.

Notably, there was no major sponsor at the end of the 2024–2025 season.

Mr. Adams reaffirmed President John Mahama's unwavering commitment to improving the caliber and allure of the domestic league while speaking at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards.

"We want to see Ghanaian football's potential soar to its greatest heights. For this reason, the administration, led by President John Dramani Mahama, is dedicated to collaborating with interested parties to rekindle interest in the local football game," Mr. Adams underlined.

"It is imperative to revitalize the local game," the Sports Minister continued.

Both Asante Kotoko and Bibiani GoldStars won the FA Cup and the Ghana Premier League, respectively, in the current season.
