Fredrick Asare, the goalkeeper and captain of Asante Kotoko, has expressed his pleasure following the team's first major prize win.
After the Porcupine Warriors defeated Golden Kick FC 2-1 in the final at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, the former Accra Lions goalie guided the team to FA Cup triumph.
Kwame Opoku's brace, which included a contentious penalty in the last minute, made sure the Reds ended their six-year FA Cup title drought.
Asare responded to the win by calling the day exceptional and expressing his desire to accomplish more with the giants from Kumasi.
"I have never lifted a trophy with Asante Kotoko before. It is quite special, and I believe we have not lifted it in about six years. After the game, he added, "We also want to thank all of the supporters for coming, and we hope to do something special for them in the years to come."
Dr. Prosper Ogum left the team to coach Karim Zito, who helped Dreams FC win the tournament two seasons ago. Asare commended the coach for a seamless transition.
Since we were eager to take care of ourselves as well, the transition was not too tough, Asare continued. "I think with them, they had practically the same style of play, so we had to adapt to their style of play, which was quite close."
Asante Kotoko will play for Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Jerry Afriyie, a rising talent from Ghana, plans to pursue a career in Europe following his breakthrough season.
Despite having a contract with Al Qadsiah of the Saudi Pro League, Ghanaian teenage striker Jerry Afriyie has made it known that he wants to make a name for himself in European football.
The 18-year-old made headlines after securing a transfer to Al Qadsiah of the Saudi Pro League after starting his football career with Thoughts FC of Ghana's Division Two.
He was promptly loaned to CD Lugo, a third-tier Spanish team, though, where he excelled and scored four goals in ten games.
Regarding his professional path, Afriyie explained that the relocation to Saudi Arabia was a component of a larger developmental plan intended to prepare young people for prospects in Europe.
Afriyie clarified, "Some people might misread the scenario." However, I wanted to play in Saudi Arabia, so I did not sign with Al Qadsiah. They hire young players and promote them throughout Europe as part of a scheme. The majority of us do not play in Saudi Arabia.
The young striker stated unequivocally what his goals are: "I do not intend to play in Saudi Arabia." I would like to play in leagues like Ligue 1 and others in Europe. That is what I want to achieve.
Afriyie's first senior call-up to the Ghanaian national team further enhanced his already growing status. At the Accra Sports Stadium, he scored his first goal in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger to commemorate the event.
Despite Ghana's 2-1 loss, Afriyie will always remember his own achievement of equalizing.
He reflected on the poignant event and remarked, "I was so thrilled that day that I could not sleep." It is difficult to make your senior squad debut and score a goal. Although it was overwhelming, I was overjoyed.
Afriyie had previously played for Ghana at the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where he displayed remarkable performances that demonstrated his talent.
Jerry Afriyie is one of Ghana's most promising young players, hoping to establish himself on the international scene, with European football firmly in his sights and a goal to his name already from his national team debut.
