Passion Air has announced a 10 percent reduction in airfares across all its domestic routes, effective June 17, 2025. The decision comes in response to the ongoing appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against major international currencies, which has eased operational costs for local airlines.

The airline stated that the fare adjustment aims to pass on the benefits of the currency’s strengthening directly to passengers, while maintaining the high standards of safety and service that customers expect. In a statement posted on its Facebook page, Passion Air emphasized its commitment to making domestic air travel more accessible and affordable for Ghanaians.

“This fare adjustment comes in response to the recent strengthening of the cedi against major foreign currencies. At Passion Air, we are committed to ensuring our valued customers benefit directly from positive market developments,” the airline said.

The move aligns with recent remarks by Ghana’s Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, who during a stakeholder breakfast organized by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority on June 11, urged domestic airlines to adjust their pricing strategies in line with the currency's positive trajectory.

Minister Nikpe highlighted the importance of leveraging economic gains to benefit consumers and stimulate growth within Ghana’s aviation sector. “It is essential that our domestic airlines reflect the positive developments in our currency to make air travel more affordable for Ghanaians,” he said.

Industry analysts see the fare reduction as a potential catalyst for increased domestic travel, supporting small businesses, and fostering national economic growth. Esi Boateng, an aviation analyst, noted that “the reduced fares could boost internal connectivity and support local entrepreneurs who rely on affordable travel options.”

Passengers have expressed enthusiasm about the move. Ama Serwaa, a small business owner and frequent traveler, remarked, “Lower fares mean I can reach more markets across Ghana without breaking the bank. It’s a much-needed boost for small businesses like mine.”

This development is seen as a positive step toward strengthening Ghana’s domestic aviation industry amid ongoing economic reforms and currency stabilization efforts. As the country continues to benefit from economic growth, such initiatives are expected to enhance accessibility and promote broader participation in air travel.
