Former NEIP CEO Blasts Ken Agyapong’s Supporter for Comparing Bawumia to Mahama

The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), John Kumah, has strongly criticized a supporter of Kennedy Agyapong for comparing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to former President John Dramani Mahama.

The supporter, whose name has not been disclosed, made comments suggesting that Bawumia and Mahama are alike, claiming both leaders have failed Ghana in different ways. This sparked a heated response from John Kumah, who described the comparison as unfair and misleading.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Kumah stated that the two leaders are worlds apart when it comes to leadership, performance, and vision. He insisted that comparing Bawumia to Mahama is like comparing “light and darkness.” According to Kumah, Dr. Bawumia has brought innovation, digital transformation, and hope to Ghana, while Mahama led the country into economic hardship and high unemployment during his time as President.

“Dr. Bawumia has introduced several digital systems to make life easier for Ghanaians. From the Ghana Card to the mobile money interoperability, he has moved Ghana forward,” Kumah wrote. “Mahama, on the other hand, left behind dumsor (power crisis), corruption scandals, and joblessness.”

He went on to say that such comparisons are dangerous because they ignore the hard work Bawumia has done over the years. He believes that Kennedy Agyapong’s team should focus on promoting their candidate instead of attacking others with false narratives.

Kumah also reminded the public that Bawumia played a big role in helping the New Patriotic Party (NPP) win two elections. “Let’s not forget that it was Dr. Bawumia who helped the NPP break the stronghold of the NDC in many parts of the north,” he said. “He is a unifier and a visionary leader.”

Many Ghanaians on social media have shared mixed feelings about the issue. Some agree with Kumah, saying Bawumia has shown good leadership and should not be compared to Mahama. Others believe both politicians have made mistakes and should be held accountable.

The debate comes at a time when the 2024 elections are drawing near, and political parties are preparing their messages and strategies. The NPP is expected to officially select its flagbearer soon, with Bawumia being seen as a strong contender. Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central MP, has also declared his intention to run for the position.

Analysts say the rivalry within the NPP could become more intense as the election approaches. However, many believe that personal attacks and false comparisons do not help the party or the country.

For now, it seems the political tension within the NPP will continue to rise, especially when supporters use social media to express their opinions. Whether the party can unite behind one candidate and focus on national development remains to be seen.

One thing is clear—John Kumah wants everyone to remember that leadership should be based on facts, performance, and results, not emotional comparisons.
