Ken Agyapong Meets 268 Former MMDCEs, Declares Presidential Ambition

Accra, June 19, 2025 – In a dramatic power move poised to shake up Ghana’s political landscape, controversial New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure Kennedy “Ken” Agyapong convened a packed hall of 268 former Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) today—and did not mince words about his presidential aspirations.

Under bright lights and a charged atmosphere, the brash Mpraeso MP laid out a three-word mantra: “We are ready.” With every seat filled and cameras rolling, Agyapong’s message was raw and unfiltered.

“This gathering confirms what we’ve suspected all along,” he declared to thunderous applause. “I am not just seeking support—I am preparing to take the mantle.”

Show of Strength

Bringing together 268 former MMDCEs—who wield considerable grassroots influence—Agyapong was signaling strategic intent. These officials, many of whom retain influential ties within their communities, offer a vital alliance at the district level—a key battleground ahead of the 2025 NPP presidential primaries and, eventually, the 2028 general election.

“This isn’t a show—it’s a strategy,” he emphasized, locking eyes with his audience. “This group knows what it takes to win.”

Observations from political analysts suggest that control over local power structures like the MMDCE network could prove decisive in NPP’s internal presidential contest. By uniting seasoned local administrators behind him, Agyapong appears to be playing a long game—one that aims to reshape power within the party and the nation itself.

Celebration and Backing

The former MMDCEs erupted in chants of “Ken! Ken! Ken!” following his announcement. Among them, former Koforidua Metropolitan CEO Grace Ofori offered public support, saying, “Kennedy’s energy and direct style is exactly what Ghana needs now.”

Others praised his clarity of message, describing the event as a milestone in NPP’s history. “This group of seasoned men and women knows what it takes to run the engine of Ghanaian governance,” commented one attendee. “We are confident in his vision.”

What Comes Next

Agyapong’s announcement today is only the opening salvos in his campaign strategy. He is expected to host a series of regional tours, targeting NPP delegates and grassroots structures. It seems clear: this is not a flash in the pan—it’s a carefully plotted rollout.

With the 2025 NPP primaries looming, all eyes will be on Agyapong’s next moves. Will his momentum grow? Or will rival aspirants push back? One thing is certain: Agyapong has announced his presence in no uncertain terms.
