Mason Mount has no plans to leave Manchester United despite reports from various sources. This was reported by Fabrizio Romano, who revealed that the player is focused on staying fit ahead of the new season.
Mount was one of Chelsea's homegrown gems, having recorded double figures in back-to-back seasons. This convinced Manchester United to pay a hefty fee to Chelsea—especially as he was an English homegrown product. However, since joining United in 2023, Mount has been plagued by persistent injuries and has mostly been left out of the squad.
What pains most United fans is the fact that he earns £250,000 per week, making him one of United’s highest earners—without contributing anything significant. What made matters worse was that Mount was given the iconic No. 7 shirt—a number many feel he didn’t earn.
Fans believe this is disrespectful to a shirt once worn by the GOAT, Cristiano Ronaldo.
That said, Mount hasn’t been entirely poor under Amorim, having come off the bench to score a brace in a Europa League match. However, Amorim faced backlash for starting him in the final. Still, there's no doubt that Mount is talented. The key now is for him to stay fit.
Beyond his struggles at United, Mount continues to face criticism from Chelsea fans for how he left the club. He is often booed at Stamford Bridge, especially after a video surfaced in which his father referred to Manchester United as "home"—a statement that didn’t sit well with the Blues' supporters. Many Chelsea fans felt betrayed by Mount's departure, given his long-standing history with the club and his role in their recent successes.
If Mount truly wants to build a football legacy, then he must remain fit enough to justify his price tag, with his priority clearly being a return to the starting XI. However, only time will tell if Mason rises to the occasion.
What do you think, can Mason step up?
