Diogo Jose Texeira da Silva born on the 4th of December 1996 was professional football player from Portugal who plied his trades in Portugal and England. Popularly known as Diogo Jota for short, he started his football career at Gondomar where he joined their youth team in 2005 when he was only 9 years old. In 2013 he moved to Pacos de Ferreira where he continued his development.

He made his senior team debut in 2014 and from that time to 2016, he made 41 appearances for Pacos de Ferreira and scored 14 goals. This feat made FC Porto sign him on loan.

Diogo was later sent to the EFL Championship in England on another loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers where he helped them secure promotion to the English Premier League by scoring 17 goals in 44 matches.

Having been impressed with his performances, Wolverhampton Wanderers signed him permanently in 2018 for €14 million. He played 131 games and scored 44 goals for them before making his historic move the Anfield in 2020 to join Liverpool for a fee of about €41 million. At Liverpool he became a household name. He played 182 matches and netted 44 times. He won the 2024-2025 Premier League title after he had previously won the FA cup and two EFL cups.

Jota did not only perform for his club sides but also for the country that gave birth to him. He played for the Portuguese national teams from the under 19 to the senior national team. He won the UEFA Nations League with Portugal in 2019 and 2025.

On 3rd July 2025, Jota and his brother, Andre Silva was involved in an accident in Spain. Unfortunately, the cold hands of death stretched to touch both of them as they could not survive the collision.

Having married his long-time girlfriend just 10 days before his death, this has become one of the saddest moments for the football fraternity.

Rest in peace Diogo Jota. May heavens open its gates for you.
