“I Didn’t Think TikTok Could Get This Bad… But Here We Are — Minister Slams Surge in Explicit Content & Calls for Action”

A couple of nights ago, I was lying in bed, just scrolling through TikTok like I always do (don’t judge me—it’s my little guilty pleasure before I crash). But then something popped up that actually made me stop mid-scroll.

It wasn’t funny. It wasn’t even cute or creative. Just… explicit. Way too explicit.

And for a split second, I thought maybe I’d somehow ended up on the wrong app. But nope—it was TikTok.

Turns out, it’s not just me noticing. The Minister came out this week and flat-out condemned the rise in sexually explicit content on TikTok. And honestly? I’m kind of relieved someone finally said it out loud.

-It’s Everywhere Now…”

I mean, have you seen the For You Page lately? What used to feel like funny skits, dance challenges, and wholesome mini-vlogs has somehow turned into a weird competition to see who can post the most shocking, raunchy content.

Like… who’s actually asking for this?

In my experience, social media has always had a little bit of everything. But lately, I’ve noticed that it’s almost impossible to scroll through TikTok without seeing something you wish you hadn’t. Especially if you’ve got younger siblings or kids watching over your shoulder (been there—awkward).

-“Local Regulation? Finally Someone Said It”

So now the Minister is demanding that TikTok be locally regulated. And at first, I thought, Oh great, more rules…. But then I realized: maybe this is the only way to protect the app from completely going off the rails.

Because let’s be real, if we don’t do something, TikTok could just turn into yet another toxic corner of the internet we all eventually abandon. And that would be a shame.

-But Who’s Really to Blame?”

I might be wrong, but I don’t think this is just about TikTok. It’s about us too. We’re the ones posting. Watching. Sharing. Encouraging the crazy stuff to go viral while the wholesome content barely gets a like.

Sometimes I wonder—have we gotten so bored that only extremes grab our attention anymore?

I don’t know.

-What Happens Next?”

If I’m being honest, I’m a little torn. On one hand, I hate the idea of the government sticking its fingers into everything online. But on the other… maybe it’s the wake-up call we need.

At the end of the day, TikTok is supposed to be fun. Creative. Something we can all enjoy without feeling grossed out or worried about who’s watching.

-So here’s what I keep asking myself:

What if we all thought twice before posting or sharing? Would TikTok still feel like this mess it’s turning into?

Or is it already too late?

What do you think—should TikTok be regulated? Or is this just another overreaction?

Let’s talk about it.
