Asante Kotoko defeated Hearts of Oak to win a ninth title on Sunday, thus solidifying their position as the most successful team in the President's Cup history.
The Porcupine Warriors had to battle to overtake their fiercest opponents, so the record-breaking victory did not come easily.
The Porcupine Warriors displayed tenacity to extend their winning streak against Hearts to six games in a thrilling contest that featured a goalkeeping error, an own goal, a missed penalty, and a goal that was disallowed.
Taking advantage of a mistake made by goalie Mohamed Camara, Hamza Issah gave Hearts of Oak the lead in the first half.
The second half, however, saw a strong response from Kotoko. The Porcupine Warriors leveled the score when defender Konadu Yiadom diverted a cross into his own net. Kwame Opoku quickly made it 2-1 by punishing shoddy defense with a straightforward finish.
Late in the game, Hearts believed they had equalized, but their goal was disallowed for offside, which caused supporters to hurl missiles onto the field in anger. A shootout might have been necessary when Emmanuel Amankwah missed a penalty.
With Sunday's win, Kotoko has now won the President's Cup nine times, including in 1973, 1984, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2025.
With six trophies, Hearts of Oak are the second-most successful team in President's Cup history.

Despite Chelsea's interest, Mohammed Kudus would rather join Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Sky Sports News, Ghanaian attacker Mohammed Kudus is solely considering a move to Tottenham Hotspur at this point in the summer transfer season.
Several Premier League teams and Saudi Pro League clubs have expressed interest in the West Ham United star. Kudus, though, seems intent on joining Spurs, who are presently negotiating a possible deal with the Hammers.
West Ham rejected Tottenham's first bid of £50 million, leaving a wide discrepancy between the two teams' valuations.
However, negotiations are still going on, and Kudus is reportedly holding off on contacting any other bidders, including Chelsea, until the two parties have reached a consensus.
One of the main reasons the 24-year-old wants to leave the London Stadium, according to sources, is his ambition to play European football next season.
He is said to be amenable to a transfer, and if a transfer fee can be agreed upon, personal terms with Spurs should not present any problems.
Kudus, who moved from Ajax to West Ham last summer, has a deal with the team that expires in 2028, with the possibility of an extension.
Chelsea and Arsenal are also keeping an eye on the versatile attacker, even if Tottenham is dominating the chase.
