Nkoranza South Municipal declares war on filth as the assembly organizes cleanup exercise. This cleaning up exercise will make the surrounding clean at all times if the activity is maintained on weekly basis.
The Nkoranza South Municipal Assembly (NSMA) has organized a comprehensive cleanup exercise on Saturday, July 5, 2025, with the aim of ridding the city of filth, weeds and choked gutters.
This initiative precedes President John Mahama's sanitation day exercise, demonstrating the Assembly's proactive approach to managing garbage and filth collection in the locality.
The exercise, which commenced at 5:30 a.m involved the de-silting of choked gutters and the clearing of bushes and rubbish by staff of the NSMA, traditional leaders, the clergy, and residents of the Nkoranza community.
Although shops were requested to close until 10:00 a.m, some complied while others defied the directive but we must ensure that people respect this exercise and partake in it to prevent the surroundings from filt.
At the conclusion of the exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Godfred Dapaa, expressed concerns over the rapid rate at which drains are being turned into waste dump sites.
The MCE noted, "Ghana needs to be clean, and we must start from our own settlements, which is why we have initiated this exercise in Nkoranza here."
He added that the encouraging attendance suggests that the future exercises could attract even more participants.
"The Assembly has planned to bring back the "Operation Clean Your Front" initiative to enhance the sanitation exercise's impact", the MCE noted.
Furthermore, a monitoring team will be deployed to ensure that every frontage of shops in town and around gutters is cleaned by residents, he emphasized.
The MCE expressed gratitude to the participants and encouraged their continued involvement in the future exercises.
Nkoranzaman Hene's representative, Nana Ameyaw Yeboah II, Sikaa Chief, appealed to the Municipal assembly for the provision of dustbins in the community to facilitate proper waste management.
He emphasized the importance of reinstalling the spirit of communal labor to develop Nkoranza South with unity.
He also suggested that the Assembly should consider implementing a reward scheme for communities that actively participate in sanitation exercises.
The chairman of the Nkoranza South sanitation committee, Nana Boffoe Sarkodie, warned that laws guiding the exercise are in place, and those who fail to comply will face the consequences according to the laws.
He concluded that if the community comes together to help abate filthy environments, diseases outbreak like malaria, cholera and the diseases will be no longer be challenging to people's health.
