Newcastle agree £55m initial fee for Forest winger Elanga

Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest over a £55 million initial fee—plus potential add‑ons rising to £60 million—to sign versatile Swedish winger Anthony Elanga. The Magpies ended a summer pursuit after edging past rival suitors Aston Villa, who had also tabled offers for the 23‑year‑old .

Elanga, capped 22 times for Sweden, enjoyed a breakthrough 2024‑25 campaign under manager Nuno Espírito Santo at Forest. He netted six goals and provided 11–12 assists in 38–43 appearances across all competitions, playing an instrumental role in securing European qualification via the Europa Conference League .

Despite Forest’s firm valuation of around £60 million, Newcastle’s proposed structure—which includes an upfront £55 million and further add‑ons—persuaded the club to accept . Sky Sports reports suggest only minor payment‑structure details remain, with Elanga expected to arrive at St . James’ Park for medicals imminently .

The English giants view Elanga as a dynamic addition to their Champions League‑bound squad. Manager Eddie Howe is targeting talent to enhance Newcastle’s attacking width—especially following Miguel Almirón’s departure—and sees Elanga as a long‑term solution on the wing .

Additionally, Nottingham Forest’s transaction includes a 15% sell‑on clause that benefits Manchester United. Forest paid £15 million for the winger in 2023, and United are set to receive approximately £6 million from this new transfer, marking a significant financial windfall .

Elanga will join forces with fellow Swedes Alexander Isak and Emil Krafth in Newcastle’s evolving squad, signing what’s expected to be a long‑term deal. The move marks Newcastle’s most substantial outlay so far this summer as they balance Premier League ambitions with a return to European competition .

As both clubs work through the final administrative steps and Elanga prepares to make the journey north, the wing signing signals Newcastle’s intent to build a deeper, more vibrant squad for the 2025–26 campaign.
