“All That Money on WhatsApp”: Police Nab Suspect in Brutal Killing of Immigration Officer — and the Cash Pics That Gave Him Away

-It was just another Wednesday night when my cousin sent me a screenshot.

A pile of crisp cedi notes.

Neatly stacked. A caption under it: “We eat big or die trying 💸🔥”

We laughed it off at first.

You know how it is — people flexing on WhatsApp statuses. Show-off culture. Nothing new.

But the next morning, that same photo was all over the news.

And this time, it wasn’t funny.

Because the police said that stack of money… was blood money.

-A Life Lost, A Status Update, and a Shocking Arrest

News broke that a Ghana Immigration Service officer had been killed in a grisly attack.

Details were murky at first — something about a dispute, something about robbery.

But what caught everyone’s attention wasn’t just the crime — it was how the suspect was caught.

Apparently, the suspect had posted pictures of himself on WhatsApp flaunting large sums of cash not long after the murder. Investigators linked those images directly to the crime, saying it was part of the motive and evidence.

Let that sink in for a second.

A young man, so eager to show off his “come-up,” he basically left a breadcrumb trail straight to himself.

And now? He’s in handcuffs.

-What I’ve Noticed Lately…

These days, it feels like every other WhatsApp status or TikTok story is someone waving cash, keys to a car, or bottles of Hennessy.

And don’t get me wrong — I get it.

It’s hard to stay quiet when you finally touch some money in this economy.

But here’s the thing… not every blessing is a blessing.

And not every come-up is clean.

We never ask ourselves where did this money come from?

We just double-tap, throw fire emojis, and say, “Charlie, you dey bee!”

Meanwhile, somewhere behind the scenes, a family is crying over a son they’ll never see again.

-In My Experience…

I could be wrong, but here’s what I’ve learned:

If you have to hurt someone to get it… it’s not worth it.

If you have to hide from the police after posting it… it’s not worth it.

If your conscience doesn’t let you sleep at night… it’s not worth it.

Social media has made us forget that money without peace of mind is just paper.

And flexing on WhatsApp? Bro, that won’t save you when the handcuffs click shut.

-So, What Now?

I’m not totally sure, but I think we — as a society — need to pause and reflect.

We need to teach young people that it’s okay to hustle slow. That it’s okay to not look rich at 23. That showing off doesn’t mean you’re winning.

And maybe, just maybe, we need to start asking hard questions when we see our friends suddenly flaunting stacks of cash that don’t match their story.

-Final Thought

I keep looking at that WhatsApp screenshot my cousin sent me.

Same photo. Same smile. Same cash.

But now, all I can think is:

How many more lives will we lose to this culture of quick money and quicker clout?

And when we finally figure it out… will it already be too late?
