Okatakyie Afrifa Fires Back at Malik Basintale: 'Try Kɛ and We’ll Respond with Kɛ Kɛ Kɛ!' Ahead of Ablekuma North Rerun

The political scene in Ablekuma North is heating up as tensions rise ahead of the crucial July 11 parliamentary rerun. Social commentator and media personality, Okatakyie Afrifa, has issued a stern warning to the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) boss, Malik Basintale, urging him to tread carefully in his campaign conduct.

In a widely shared video, Afrifa voiced concern over Basintale’s remarks made during a recent National Democratic Congress (NDC) rally. Basintale had boldly warned that any interference from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the rerun would be met with strong resistance, famously saying, “If we hear ‘kɛ’ from the NPP, they’ll hear ‘kɛkɛ’ from us.” This statement has stirred unease among observers and sparked reactions across the political divide.

Reacting to Basintale’s comments, Afrifa didn’t mince words. He cautioned that any attempt to create chaos in the constituency would not be taken lightly. “If Malik dares to play games with this election, there will be consequences,” Afrifa warned passionately. “We will not allow anyone to disturb the peace in Ablekuma North.”

The rerun, which will take place in 19 polling stations, has become a symbol of deeper tensions within the NPP and Ghana’s broader political climate. While the NPP leadership has officially boycotted the rerun, declaring that their candidate, Akua Afriyie, rightfully won by 414 votes in the original count, Afriyie herself has decided to go against party orders and continue campaigning. She claims divine guidance and insists she has the people’s mandate.

Okatakyie Afrifa, who has publicly thrown his support behind Akua Afriyie, has positioned himself as a vocal advocate for electoral integrity in the area. His message to Basintale was as much a plea for calm as it was a challenge to anyone planning mischief. “This constituency is not up for grabs through intimidation. We will protect our democracy,” he emphasized.

Online, the political clash has sparked heated debates, with supporters of both figures defending their positions. Meanwhile, security agencies have reportedly increased surveillance to ensure the rerun proceeds peacefully.

As election day draws closer, all eyes remain on Ablekuma North—not just for the outcome, but for what it may signal about the future of political engagement in Ghana. Watch the full video below.
