Victor Osimhen has now made the choice of his career, as he wants to stay at Galatasaray on a permanent move.
I know this is not what many of his fans want—especially considering that, as a striker of his caliber and in his prime, spending it in the Turkish league may seem underwhelming. But of course, as his fans, the only thing we can do is support him.
A few weeks ago, there were reports that Liverpool and Napoli were willing to go for a swap deal involving Núñez and potentially Chiesa for Osimhen. And honestly, I believe that news—because the truth is, there’s no smoke without fire. Behind every rumor, there’s always an iota of truth.
I really wish Victor had moved to Liverpool, as they have a family atmosphere similar to the one he is now pursuing at Galatasaray.
Galatasaray fans and management did everything they could to make Osimhen stay, and he has built a solid relationship with the club. Genuinely, I’ve never seen him smile as much as he has at Galatasaray—nowhere else.
What was meant to be a quick stop to pass the time might now become permanent.
However, the reason I don’t want him to stay at Galatasaray is that they don’t seem to have serious ambitions in Europe. Sure, there has been talk about success in Europe, with the president, Dursun Özbek, repeatedly saying they are done merely competing with other Turkish clubs. But wasn’t it the same Galatasaray that claimed they had the money for Osimhen’s transfer ready?
Now they’re negotiating to pay in five installments, which has currently stalled the deal.
Of course, I think Galatasaray is a top club in Turkey—and I especially love the “Cimbom Cimbom†chant since I started watching the Turkish Super Lig when Victor joined on loan. But what are their ambitions in the Champions League?
Also, let’s say Victor eventually gets tired—because the truth is, nobody knows tomorrow—and wants to leave. Do you think they would easily let him go, especially after breaking the transfer record for the most expensive player not just in Galatasaray’s history but in the entire Super Lig?
Honestly, I really wish Galatasaray were a bigger club than this. And as a Nigerian and a big Osimhen fan, I’m torn between praying for the deal to collapse and supporting his decision to move to Galatasaray.
Because the truth is, I’m not the one going to kick a ball on the field, and I’m not the one getting paid.
So Victor has every right to do what’s best for him and his career.
I’m just an emotional fan wishing him the very best.
