More than 30 communities in the Ashanti Region are expected to experience temporary power and water cuts as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) undertakes planned maintenance works on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The exercise, scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., is part of ECG’s broader strategy to improve service delivery and ensure a more stable and reliable electricity supply across the region.
The affected areas include Barekese Headworks, Kronum Cement, Heman, Amoaman, Nketia, Asuofua, CONSAR Quarry, Adankwame, Adugama, Naachia Quarry, Barekese Town, Abira, Offinso, Namong, Kayera, Tutuase, Nsuotam, Kyerekrom, Boamang, Tetrem, Habitat, Ahenkro, Kwamang, Kodie, Akrofrom, Aduman, Aduamoah, Denase, Pampatia, KCG Company and nearby communities.
The planned outage will also impact water supply as the Barekese Water Treatment Plant (WTP), which relies on electricity to operate, will be temporarily shut down. According to Ghana Water Limited (GWL) in the Ashanti Region, the plant will resume operations immediately after power is restored.
In a statement issued to staff, stakeholders, and the general public, GWL expressed regret over the inconvenience the shutdown may cause. “We appreciate your cooperation and patience as ECG carries out this critical maintenance operation,” the release stated.
Residents and institutions in the affected areas are advised to store enough water and make contingency plans to reduce the impact of the disruption.
The Electricity Company of Ghana has also advised customers to turn off electrical appliances during the outage to avoid damage when power is restored.
The two utility providers have assured the public that efforts will be made to complete the work on time and resume normal services promptly.
They emphasized the importance of the maintenance work in improving the long-term efficiency and reliability of electricity and water supply systems in the region.
ECG together with the GWL have appealed to the public to remain calm and supportive during the brief interruption in service.
