Ghana’s Brightest Young Innovators Shine at WRO 2025 National Qualifiers – Teams Neuromeck and Nextropass Make Their Mark

On Saturday, July 20, 2025, the University of Ghana, Legon, played host to one of the most exciting STEM competitions in the country - the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Ghana National Qualifiers, organized by the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation (GRAF).

This event served as the official gateway for Ghanaian teams aiming to qualify for the WRO 2025 International Finals in Singapore later this year.

Representing the Apass Robotics Club, two student teams stood out among the best in the nation: Team Neuromeck (Elementary Category) and Team Nextropass (Senior Category).

After weeks of design, coding, testing, and refining, Team Neuromeck emerged as one of the top contenders, securing an impressive 2nd place in the Elementary category.

Their robot demonstrated precision and efficiency in solving mission-based tasks, showcasing their engineering creativity and programming skills. The team’s commitment and discipline were clear in every round, earning praise from judges and attendees alike.

On the senior front, Team Nextropass also delivered a strong performance, finishing in 6th place overall. Competing in a more advanced category, they navigated complex challenges with determination, applying strategy and teamwork to stand out among more experienced teams.

While only the top teams from each category earned the opportunity to advance to WRO Singapore, the achievements of both Neuromech and Nextropass are a reflection of Ghana’s growing talent pool in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Their efforts also highlight the role of local schools and clubs like Apass in preparing students for international competition.

The qualifiers brought together passionate young minds from across the country and emphasized the power of robotics to inspire problem-solving, critical thinking, and global collaboration.

As we celebrate the success of Neuromech and Nextropass, we also recognize the importance of consistent training, mentorship, and access to resources that nurture innovation from an early age. Events like these are not just competitions—they are catalysts for the future.

Congratulations to all the teams, and a special salute to the organizers at GRAF, the University of Ghana, and every coach and mentor pushing STEM forward in Ghana.
