A strongly worded letter has been written to Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), criticizing his verbal attacks on Health Minister Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The letter, penned by M.K. Eric, describes Dr. Tenkorang-Twum's behavior as "verbal diarrhea" and questions his leadership abilities and emotional intelligence.

M.K Eric has condemned recent comments by Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), describing his remarks about the Minister of Health as "highly unacceptable".

The criticism stems from Dr. Tenkorang-Twum's response to the Health Minister's actions following an incident at Ridge Hospital in Accra, where a person was videoing hospital workers and patients for not attending to their colleague, causing disturbances.

This follows comments he made on the circulation of a viral video showing relatives of a patient physically attacking medical staff at the emergency department of Ridge Hospital, sparking public outrage and renewed concern about the safety of frontline health workers.

While reaffirming their solidarity with fellow nurses and midwives on the matter, the GRNMA expressed deep disappointment in Dr Tenkorang-Twum’s choice of language, calling it "unbecoming of a leader of his stature" and falling short of the professionalism expected at his level.

As a senior representative of the nursing profession, I believe Dr Tenkorang-Twum should have exercised greater discretion, professionalism, and respect in his choice of words, regardless of any disagreement with government policy or actions,” he said.

The Minister's swift response to the incident, including personally assessing the situation and ensuring the affected nurse received free treatment and compensation, has been highlighted as an example of effective leadership.

In an exclusive interview with Fabea FM's Apiah-Kubi, Eric raised concerns about Dr. Tenkorang-Twum's impartiality and potential bias against the current government, suggesting that his actions could damage the image of GRNMA.

He also questioned Dr. Tenkorang-Twum's suitability for the role of General Secretary, citing his lack of emotional intelligence and maturity.

M.K Eric urged all leaders within the profession to uphold the highest standards of decorum and professional conduct in public discourse, warning that intemperate language risks undermining the credibility and dignity of the nursing and midwifery community.

M.K Eric called on Dr Tenkorang-Twum to reflect on the incident and to demonstrate “better judgement” in future engagements, stating that such action is necessary to “protect the image of nurses and midwives across the country” and ensure their collective voice “continues to command the respect it deserves”.

According to Eric, the controversy highlights the importance of effective leadership and communication in professional settings, particularly in roles that require collaboration with other stakeholders.
