Representatives from the Dangote Group arrived on Sunday to collect the remains of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Phyna, who won Big Brother Naija Season 7. Ruth tragically passed away in a hospital after suffering a leg amputation due to being struck by a truck associated with the Dangote Group near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. She died on Sunday morning, just weeks after the accident.
The family publicly announced her passing through a statement from Eko Solicitors & Advocates, revealing that Ruth left this world around 6:30 a.m. on August 31, 2025. The statement expressed their deep sorrow: “With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother.”
In their time of grief, the family has requested privacy to mourn Ruth's loss. They mentioned, “The family is currently grieving and would appreciate a private moment to process this tragedy. Funeral arrangements will be shared with the public at the appropriate time.”
A source close to the family informed PUNCH Metro that the Dangote Group was contacted right after Ruth’s death, and they promptly took her body to the mortuary. “When she passed this morning, we reached out to the representatives, and they came to handle the arrangements. We hope they will cover the burial costs, as they had already agreed to take care of her medical bills,” said the source, who wished to remain anonymous.
Another relative, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the family's mourning, described Ruth as a joyful and loving individual. “We’ll really miss her. We believed she would pull through after showing signs of recovery. She was such a warm presence in our lives. We called her Bobo, which was her nickname. She lived with her parents in Ketu-Alapere, and they frequently visited our family home in Omojua Estate, Kosofe,” the relative shared.
Witnesses recounted seeing the heavy truck that hit Ruth, which severely injured her leg before a bystander intervened to stop it. Phyna had urged for her sister to be flown to India for medical care. In response, the Dangote Group confirmed the incident, stating they had visited the site, worked with law enforcement, and met the family at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo State. The company assured them of full medical support and compensation as per their welfare policy.
