Victor Osimhen’s commitment to the Super Eagles should never be in doubt nor questioned.
Now, we see some Twitter banger boys questioning Osimhen's commitment to the team after he was subbed off before half-time due to a bad tackle by a Rwandan player who wasn’t even carded, despite his obvious attempt to injure Osimhen.
Osimhen tried to continue but signaled that he couldn’t a few minutes later. Despite a stretcher being provided, the Galatasaray star stood up and walked off the pitch, showing how strong he is. Like he once said: "I have an elite mentality, I see myself as a lion."
However, some have suggested that Osimhen left the game not because of injury but because he didn’t want to get injured. Another even claimed that the most committed player in the team faked an injury to get out of the match. This is malicious. By the way, this is a player who is the highest goalscorer in the 2025 World Cup qualifiers for Nigeria with 3 goals in two matches—excluding the 30 minutes he played against Rwanda. He scored a brace against Rwanda in their home match, giving Nigeria their first qualifier win. No wonder the Rwandan defense wanted to take him out at all costs on Saturday to prevent a Nigerian victory. Unfortunately for them, Tolu Arokorade stepped up.
Osimhen is the second-highest goalscorer for the Super Eagles. Beyond that, one of his issues with Napoli even stemmed from the fact that he always returned from national team duty injured, because the goalscoring burden was always on him.
I remember a match sometime in 2019 or 2021/2022 (I can’t really recall) where Victor scored two goals and assisted two against Lesotho. Unfortunately, he had to be stretchered off after landing awkwardly. Immediately after he left the game, Nigeria conceded four goals.
Honestly, I feel the questioning of Victor's commitment is mostly from banger boys on Twitter who are apparently jobless, because the whole Uyo Stadium chanted Osimhen's name in support despite his early injury—acknowledging that we wouldn’t even be fighting for a World Cup spot in the first place if not for him.
