Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka (born 26 August 1948 in Bom near Kensere, Ashanti Region, Ghana) was a noted Ghanaian inventor, industrialist, pastor and philanthropist. He founded the Kristo Asafo Mission in 1969, and later the Kantanka Group, best known for Kantanka Automobile, which aimed to build locally made cars adapted to Ghanaian and African road conditions. 


Over decades, Apostle Safo earned acclaim as “Kantanka, the Star of Africa,” for blending faith and innovation: from auto-vehicles (SUVs, pickups, saloons) to agricultural machinery and technological gadgets, and for promoting self-reliance in manufacturing in Ghana. His church and enterprises provided training, jobs, and inspirational leadership to many young Ghanaians. 


Death & Aftermath


The Safo family and Kristo Asafo Church officially confirmed that Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka passed away peacefully on Thursday, 11 September 2025, aged 77. His daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo (former MP for Dome-Kwabenya), signed the statement, which described him as “a true genius, a beacon of hope for many, a father to the fatherless.” The family quoted Romans 14:8: “For if we live, we live to the Lord and if we die, we die to the Lord.” He's innovation and creative output of love and passion towards his works shall always be remembered.For he was not only A good innovator and a man of God he was a loving father to his children as well.Prominent figures always sought ideas of how to make it whiles in Africa.Did got the ideas of this lovable and ideal son of Africa(Ghana)to be precised.Apostle Safo’s death marks the end of a landmark chapter in Ghana’s industrial and spiritual history. His legacy remains in the cars branded “Made in Ghana,” in the lives touched by his mission, and in the ongoing conversations about local innovation, technology, and faith.
