Andre Onana had an incredible debut against Fenerbahçe. Despite his side being reduced to 10 men early on and a wrongfully disallowed Paul Onuachu goal, Onana still fought for his team, winning Man of the Match in the process. He faced 9 shots on target, saving 8, according to Sofascore. It’s so crazy how players leave Manchester United and suddenly become good.
Funny enough, Manchester United lost 3-0 the same day. It’s not as if Trabzonspor even won, but Onana—the Manchester United Onana—was making 8 saves on his own. This is the same guy who conceded a totally avoidable goal in Cameroon’s loss to Cape Verde.
While Onana was making saves against Fenerbahçe, Rasmus Højlund was linking up with Scott McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne, scoring on his debut. Someone said Manchester United might actually be the weapon fashioned against its own players, because how else do you explain players leaving the club and suddenly becoming heroes elsewhere? Real Betis fans worship the ground Antony walks on, McTominay is a superhero for Napoli, and Trabzonspor already has a song for Andre Onana.I mean he can't be that bad. After all, he was just signed after reaching the UCL finals with Inter Milan. And honestly speaking, questions needs to be asked as Manchester United fans because now that Onana has gone, Luke Shaw has been labeled "the problem" . I feel like Manchester United has some form of curse because why have we been on a downward spiral for two good years. We need to ask questions and receive answers.
Honestly, when I said Onana might be reborn in Türkiye, I didn’t even believe it myself. But his debut was that good. It’s just one match, though—let’s see what he has to offer in subsequent games. Honestly, I’m tempted to root for him.
And maybe—just maybe—we need to dismantle Manchester United as an institution.
