Parents urged not to pay for SHS placement

The Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) 2025 has officially been released, giving thousands of students who wrote the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) their Senior High School (SHS) placements.

The Ministry of Education has warned parents and guardians not to pay money to anyone who claims they can secure placement in a specific school.

Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, said placement into SHS is completely free and parents should avoid fraudsters.

“Do not pay anyone who promises to help you with placement. Such people are fraudsters and should be reported to the police immediately,” Dr. Apaak advised.

CSSPS Goes Live Nationwide

According to Dr. Apaak, the placement system went live today, and students will be placed strictly according to the programmed guidelines. He explained that this year’s exercise has been improved to avoid the challenges of previous years, adding that the process will run smoothly without manual interference.

Limited Space in Grade ‘A’ Schools

The Deputy Minister admitted that there are always limited slots in Grade ‘A’ schools, which leads to high competition. However, he urged parents to accept the placements provided by the system once they match their child’s gender and program choice.

He also stressed that success in education does not depend on attending a Grade ‘A’ school, but rather on the student’s discipline, hard work, parental support, and the guidance of teachers.

Resolution Centre Set Up in Accra

To deal with genuine placement challenges, the Ministry has opened a Resolution Centre at GNAT Hall in Accra. The centre will address issues such as:

  • Boys wrongly placed in all-girls schools or girls in all-boys schools.
  • Technical students placed in non-technical schools.

The Resolution Centre will operate 24 hours daily, with strong security, until all placement-related issues are resolved before SHS reopening next month.
