Chelsea has lost to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the UCL. A combination of wrong passes and sloppy defending mostly led to Chelsea’s defeat. Despite Bayern not having the best backline, they capitalized on each Chelsea mistake. The first was an own goal by Trevoh Chalobah, who hit the ball into his own net. Just seven minutes later, Moisés Caicedo fouled Harry Kane in the box, leading to a penalty, which Kane promptly converted. Cole Palmer was able to pull one back for the Blues just a few minutes after Kane's goal, but it wasn't enough.
Another mistake in the 63rd minute, when Malo Gusto made a wrong pass in midfield, allowed Harry Kane to capitalize. That, coupled with a huge miss by Enzo Fernández, completely finished Chelsea. Aside from that, Enzo Maresca clearly took too much time before making the required substitutions. In fact, what led to Chelsea’s loss wasn’t simply that Bayern Munich were better—it was that Chelsea were too error-prone. Okay, I will definitely say Bayern Munich were better.
Next up, the Blues will face Benfica, against their former coach José Mourinho, who is set to become Benfica’s head coach. As for Bayern Munich, of course this isn’t revenge for the 2012 final; however, they have proven that they can beat Chelsea. Personally, I can say that I am very happy about Chelsea’s loss. It gives me great joy and peace to see Chelsea fans in tears. What would be even more special is probably losing to Benfica, and that’s strongly a possibility, because there is no way they are suddenly going to replace their trashy backline before then. I mean imagine their goalkeeper being amongst the best on the pitch despite the loss. Chelsea has returned to the Champions League after two years with a loss, and we say welcome. Hopefully, they are out soon enough, just as they came.
