Manchester United recorded their third Premier League win of the season with a convincing 2–0 victory over Sunderland, as new goalkeeper Senne Lammens, signed from Antwerp, made his debut and kept a clean sheet.
Mason Mount opened the scoring in the 8th minute, a rare goal contribution since leaving Chelsea. Benjamin Šeško then doubled the lead in the 38th minute, netting his first Premier League goal since joining from RB Leipzig.
United registered their first clean sheet of the season, thanks in part to Lammens, who made a crucial save in the first half to deny Sunderland a way back, and another key stop in the 78th minute that eased the pressure on United’s defense.
If Lammens continues with this level of performance, it’s clear he could cement his place as Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper — a role he was actually signed to fill. The club has long struggled in this position, with André Onana making costly errors and Altay Bayındır proving inconsistent despite his efforts, especially in the FA Cup against Arsenal.
Fans at Old Trafford were quick to liken Lammens to prime Gianluigi Buffon, praising his calmness and ability not to parry shots into dangerous areas — something they hadn’t seen from a United goalkeeper in years.
The win also eased pressure on Rúben Amorim, with reports from The Telegraph suggesting he might have lost his job if United had failed to beat Sunderland. However, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United intend to give Amorim more time to work with the squad before making any managerial decisions.
Plus, Manchester United have made several major changes this season, including finally signing an actual goalkeeper. So, as much as I want the bald-headed guy to be sacked, a part of me thinks he should at least be given time until January — before he potentially sends us into relegation by refusing to change his system or adapt.
