The Private Security Guard Association of Ghana (PSGAG) has recently held crucial meetings with two key government ministers to address pressing issues affecting the private security sector.
On October 2, 2025, the association met with the Minister of Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed, and earlier in the year, on April 14, 2025, with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Hon. Dr. Rashid Pelpuo with concerns of working conditions.
Upon meeting the government ministers, some key challenges facing the private security guards highlighted several challenges confronting them as private security guards.
However, some key challenges highlighted included inadequate salaries for the private security guards which are scanty, despite working long hours, excessive working hours up to 12 hours a day without additional incentives, they also outlined lack of insurance coverage.
The Minister of Interior admitted that the salaries paid to most private security Guards is inadequate, and no additional incentives despite the work for twelve hours a day.
The minister acknowledged that he was aware of these challenges, describing them as unacceptable practice. He stated that his ministry would not tolerate any form of unfair treatment by security companies towards their employees.
In an exclusive interview with Fabea FM's Apiah-Kubi, Roland Obibah Mensah, the president for the PSGAG, expressed that they are pleading with the government to be inclusive in the 24-hour economy program as securities with their commitment to help address security issues in Ghana.
"We want to be employed in the 24-hour economy program, to safeguard as securities to people who would work on the three shift schedules", Obibah Mensah stated.
He added that the ministers assured to include them in the security sector to help in the services.
"We were assured that we'll be retrained to be able to meet the necessary requirements to be part of the national security administration", Obibah Mensah added.
Obibah Mensah on behalf of the Private Security Guard Association of Ghana (PSGAG) expressed gratitude to both ministers for their willingness to support the private security sector.
The association called on its members to remain calm and focused while discussions continued, assuring them that their concerns would be addressed.
In conclusion, Obibah Mensah showed the association is determined to work with all stakeholders to ensure that private security guards work in accordance to help the security service in Ghana.
