Dr. Dominic Ayine Reveals Hanan Abdul-Wahab Acquired Luxury Homes and Hotels with Proceeds of Crime
The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has publicly released a comprehensive list of high-value properties allegedly acquired by Hanan Abdul-Wahab, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), using misappropriated public funds. The disclosure, made during a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, underscores the government’s commitment to an aggressive anti-corruption agenda.
Dr. Ayine stated that investigators from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) successfully traced several assets and significant bank transactions that are believed to be the fruits of illicit financial activity conducted by Abdul-Wahab during his tenure at NAFCO.
Key Properties Allegedly Purchased with Illicit Funds
The properties named by the Attorney General represent a substantial portfolio of real estate, ranging from luxury residential homes in prime Accra locations to commercial ventures in the northern part of the country.
The list of assets allegedly acquired by Hanan Abdul-Wahab using proceeds of crime, according to the Attorney General, includes:
Five-Bedroom Residence: A luxury house located in Chain Homes, valued at {$1.625 million}.
Three-Bedroom House: A residential property situated in Cantonments, purchased for {$600,000}.
Multiple Land Plots: Several parcels of land located in the prestigious Airport Development Area, with an estimated worth of {$750,000}.
Boutique Hotel: A large 17-bedroom hotel facility in Gumani, Tamale, reportedly acquired for {\$250,000}.
Four-Bedroom Bungalow: A residential property in Dworwulu, Accra, valued at over {GH₵4.14 million}.
Government Land Parcel: A 0.32-acre plot of state land, purchased for {GH₵307,200}.
Dr. Ayine assured the public that the government remains resolute in its commitment to accountability. He confirmed that all assets definitively proven to have been acquired through stolen funds will be confiscated by the state in strict accordance with the law, sending a clear message against financial misconduct in the public service.
Context of the Corruption Scandal
The revelation of these assets follows the arrest and detention of Abdul-Wahab and his wife in June 2025 over allegations of large-scale financial misconduct.
The former CEO was detained by EOCO for two weeks before being granted bail, which was reportedly set at a staggering {GH₵60 million} with two sureties. His wife was released earlier on a {GH₵30 million} bail. The bail terms faced criticism from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), which characterized them as excessively harsh and potentially politically motivated.
The current disclosure of the acquired assets is a key element of the government’s Government Accountability Series, a program designed to keep the public informed on investigations and efforts to retrieve misappropriated funds and prosecute individuals involved in corruption scandals across various public institutions.
