He was born on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina, into a modest family. His father, Jorge Messi, worked in a steel factory, while his mother, Celia Cuccittini, was employed in a magnet manufacturing workshop. From the time he could walk, Messi showed a deep love for football, often playing with his brothers and cousins in the streets and fields near his home.
