Black Queens finish third in Africa, and Kim Lars Bjorkegren praises "wild" 2025.
Kim Lars Bjorkegren, head coach of the Black Queens, has proudly called 2025 a "wild year" after an incredible year that saw Ghana's women's team finish as the third-best in Africa.
The team's quick success, which included a bronze medal at the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations and a positive season finale against elite opponents, satisfied the Swedish coach, who took over in January.
"Yeah, there had been a little bit of a hectic year, I will say, almost a year with the Black Queens," Bjorkegren remarked. "They have been incredible. Though challenging at times, it has been an amazing experience overall, and I am thrilled that I seized the chance to lead the Black Queens as head coach."
After losing to hosts Morocco on penalties and then overcoming South Africa in the playoffs, Ghana narrowly missed out on the final and finished third at WAFCON. The competition was a significant advancement for the squad, according to Bjorkegren.
"As a group, we developed significantly. We put forth a lot of effort and improved our tactical and physical readiness. It was difficult to lose on penalties, but taking third place was memorable. He continued, "It was a fantastic summer with a wonderful celebration in Ghana."
The Black Queens further demonstrated their development under the new coach when they easily defeated Egypt 7-0 on aggregate to qualify for the next WAFCON.
