According to Wontumi FM, UAE team Dubai City has made Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko a $100,000 offer to sign captain Samba O'Neil.

Due to his outstanding play since joining Kotoko, the rock-solid defender, who is in the last year of his contract, has drawn a lot of attention.

After leaving Rahimo FC to join the Porcupine Warriors in 2024, the Congolese international has become a vital player of the squad.

The UAE First Division, eager to improve its team, has made an offer of almost $100,000 to acquire the services of the highly regarded defender, as his contract is about to expire.

Dubai City has suggested paying the Congolese marksman $10,000 a month in an effort to get Samba's signature.

The Porcupine Warriors have not yet decided what will happen to the highly sought-after center back.

The 25-year-old center back has made 13 appearances for Kotoko out of 14 games in the Ghana Premier League this season, scoring one goal during that time. Samba played four games in the CAF Confederation Cup and scored one goal as the Ghanaian powerhouses lost in the second preliminary round.

Samba has made 47 appearances in various competitions since joining Kotoko, contributing an assist and three goals.

In 2028, AFCON will transition to a four-year cycle while CAF introduces the African Nations League.

The Africa Cup of Nations will switch to a four-year cycle starting in 2028, according to Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football.

The announcement was made on Saturday, the night before the Morocco tournament in 2025. Since 1968, AFCON has taken place every two years, except the year that separated the 2012 and 2013 tournaments.

The competition will switch to a four-year calendar beginning in 2028, with the 2027 tournament in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania marking the end of the present format. Additionally, Motsepe disclosed plans to start an annual African Nations League in 2029.

Motsepe declared, "We have the most exciting new organization for African football."

On Sunday, Morocco and Comoros will kick off the 2025 edition. The Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat will host the curtain-raiser. Before making the statement, which is sure to cause controversy, Motsepe, as has become typical, spoke to the media prior to kickoff, touching on a number of important topics.

The format change may be seen by some as a reaction to pressure from European clubs, who have frequently voiced reservations about the tournament's schedule. AFCON is largely recognized as the continent's premier sporting event. Clubs could keep their players for this edition until December 15, which is only one week before the action starts on December 21.

AFCON scheduling has been a persistent problem in recent years. Due to infrastructure delays in Cameroon, the 2021 tournament was rescheduled for 2022, while the 2023 edition was rescheduled until early 2024 for similar reasons.

Although CAF had previously tried to move the competition from its customary January to February window to June and July, only the 2019 edition in Egypt took place during that time due to the intense heat, which negatively impacted performances.

Due to severe rains and the possibility of flooding, tournaments in West Africa have also struggled with a June–July schedule. The Morocco 2025 event was originally set for June and July, but it had to be rescheduled due to FIFA's Club World Cup expanding to 32 teams during that time. Consequently, the tournament will now take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
