 The literacy level in this country has increased significantly. That is in part as a consequence of the fee senior high school policy. The initiative has been so massive, it has started to reveal the hidden cracks in our educational system.

 Educationists and intellectuals have long called for an overhaul of the current school curriculum. The general consensus is to create a curriculum that will inculcate creativity and critical thinking. This is to help students at the  basic level to develop interest in technical, vocational and STEM carriers.

 Moreover, the downside is that, this solution is being implemented at the basic level of education so it won’t impact Tertiary institutions.The nation will have to deal with the influx of unskilled graduates for a while, thus creating a skill gap.

 However, its not all doom and gloom. There are various apprenticeship programs that these young adults can enrol in. The goal is to equip yourself with technical skills in addition to the academic achievements. This will make the individual more sophisticated.And automatically gives you the upper hand in the case of a job hunt or establishing yourself,compared to your peers.

 Its important to note that, all some might need is an internship or attachment, based on the programs studied in school. Though having more skilled labor might help the nation as a whole, in reducing the dependency rate on non technical professions.This doesn’t render those professions less significant, rather it helps to maintain balance in the employment landscape.

 In addition, more skilled labour means a lot of startups and more job opportunities.Therefore government payroll will be less burdened every year. Also, people with ambitions of travelling outside the country in search of greener pastures, are more likely to land decent jobs.Compared to other immigrants who aren’t skilled in any field, this is a huge advantage.

 In conclusion, there’s a huge skill gap that needs to be bridged. The lack of skilled labour has resulted in various critical positions that drives the economy got taken over by foreign nationals. Foreign experts working in the country isn’t wrong, but we need to train more skilled personnel to at least balance the ratio. What is currently happening is a total domination. A typical example is the oil and gas industry.

 Learning a skill makes you more sophisticated and open to more opportunities, so learn a skill. Even if it’s out of curiosity.
