2025/26 Ghana Premier League Match Preview: Hohoe United vs. Heart of Lions.

Hohoe United has its back against the wall, and it must use magic to defeat its regional rivals, Heart of Lions, at home on Friday, January 2, 2026, in the first game of the week 17 schedule.

The newcomers are deep in the relegation battle and need the points to move away from the bottom.

Hohoe United is 16th in the table after 16 matches, with 17 points - not good enough.

Last week's journey to Basake Holy Stars ended in a 2-0 defeat, and they know they must recover.

Hohoe United Head Coach Tijani Bashiru said in his pre-match speech: "We are playing against a team that has a similar problem as us we all lost in our last week games, so that will tell you how difficult this encounter will be, but we are playing at home, so we have the right mentality to win here, so we have to work very hard for that, especially in all aspects of the game where we need to improve, particularly in scoring opportunities."

Hohoe United announced the signing of center defender Emmanuel Kyeremeh before the Volta derby to reinforce their backline.

He joined them on a long-term contract from the Togolese top-flight club AS Gbohloe-Su.

Heart of Lions were stunned 1-0 at home to Medeama last week, which serves as a warning that they need to improve.

Despite this, they are now in eighth place in the league.

Head Coach Bashiru Hayford: We have to make sure we lift our game, so all of our preparations have been to lift our game and ensure we finish the first round of the league properly.
