A La District Court has remanded two women in custody following an alleged assault on a 12-year-old girl in the vicinity of La Roman Junior High School. The accused, 22-year-old Precious Giftan Mesopeh and 25-year-old Princess Giftan Mesopeh, appeared before the court on charges of conspiracy, assault, and cruelty to a child.
According to court proceedings, both women pleaded not guilty to the charges. Despite a bail application submitted by their legal representation, the court refused the request, ordering the sisters to be held for two weeks to allow the police to complete their investigations. The case has since been adjourned to January 19, 2026.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Gladys Aikins Asare, strongly opposed the bail application. She argued that the accused persons posed a flight risk and that their continued detention was essential for the integrity of the ongoing investigation. The police are also currently searching for a third suspect, the mother of the accused, Priscilla Novishie Wanyo, who is reportedly on the run.
The facts of the case presented to the court reveal that the victim was a young girl known to the Mesopeh family, frequently assisting them with household chores and errands. The incident reportedly stems from a dispute on December 30, 2025, between the victim and the accused sisters' seven-year-old brother. This disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, leaving the young boy with injuries.
In what appears to be an act of retaliation, the accused women allegedly tracked down the 12-year-old girl and assaulted her. The incident gained widespread attention after a video of the assault was captured and circulated across social media platforms. This digital evidence played a significant role in identifying the suspects and led to their subsequent arrest by the police.
As the legal process unfolds, the victim's identity remains protected. The upcoming hearing on January 19 is expected to provide further clarity as the police finalize their inquiries and continue the search for the third suspect involved in the case.
