JUST IN: NKORANZA SOUTH NDC YOUTH APPLAUD TANOSO YOUTH OVER ANTI-GALAMSEY ACTION

The Nkoranza South NDC Youth Wing in the Bono East Region has commended the youth of Tanoso in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region for their swift and bold intervention in the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Fabea FM’s "Me Man Ho Dadwen" show hosted by Apiah-Kubi, the Convener of the Nkoranza South NDC Youth Wing, Ofosu Isaac, popularly known as Commander Yaw-White, described the action by the Tanoso Youth as courageous, united, and patriotic, and an example worth emulating across the Bono East Region and Ghana.

The suspect was apThe suspect was apprehended on Sunday after being caught red-handed transporting sacks of mineral-bearing stones and sand from an illegal mining site to the palace, claiming ownership of the materials. He was subsequently handed over to the police.

Tension reportedly erupted at the Tanoso Chief’s Palace after some youth clashed with the Tanoso Ankobeahene over alleged involvement in galamsey activities.  

The Youth in Tanoso have since arrested the Ankobeahene of the area, Nana Amoako Atta, over his alleged involvement in illegal mining.

Regarding the steps taken by the Tanoso Youth, Commander Yaw-White emphasized that the Government of Ghana, especially His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, should reward them for their effort in supporting the fight against galamsey.

"Their commitment to protecting our lands and water bodies for the future is an example worth emulating across the Bono East Region and Ghana as a whole, which needs a worthy reward from the President," Commander Yaw-White said.

He noted that protecting the environment is not solely the responsibility of government or security agencies, but a duty for every citizen, especially the youth who will inherit the land in the future.

"This has clearly shown the commitment by some youths in the country supporting the President's bid to fight against galamsey," Yaw-White noted.

The group also reaffirmed the commitment of the NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama to "Resetting Ghana" through responsible mining, protection of water bodies, and youth empowerment.

Commander Yaw-White cited government has alternative livelihood initiatives aimed at providing sustainable jobs for young people and reducing their involvement in illegal mining.

"We stand in solidarity with the Tanoso Youth and all communities fighting to preserve our environment for generations to come.  

Let’s keep our rivers clean. Let’s keep our lands green," he added.

The Youth Wing concluded that the fight against galamsey is a fight for the future and pledged its full support to the Tanoso Youth and similar community-led efforts.
