Ghana Police have arrested several suspects in connection with the death of Nana Yaw Kyere, a well-known mobile phone dealer from the Circle area of Accra who traded under the names Terry and Dinero.

Kyere was last seen on Sunday, September 20, 2026, after travelling to Teshie. He had told contacts he was going for a phone-related transaction, though later accounts indicated he was meeting a woman. Before losing contact, he sent WhatsApp messages to a close friend stating he had been “set up,” along with a photo of a room and his live location. The location was later deleted from the conversation. Subsequent messages from his phone used unusual language that raised concern among those who knew him.

His body was found on the morning of Thursday, September 24, 2026, buried near the sea in Teshie. Relatives confirmed the identification and reported signs that an attempt had been made to burn the body beforehand, though it was unsuccessful. The remains were deposited at a morgue for autopsy. Kyere’s Honda Civic was later recovered at a spraying shop in Teshie.

Investigators traced Kyere’s phone to a room linked to Philip Tefe, also known as Phil. Tefe, described in reports as a church singer, has been identified as a key suspect. Some circulating accounts claim he had presented himself in military-style clothing, though there is no confirmed information that he is a member of the Ghana Armed Forces. Reports state that Tefe directed police to the location of the body and admitted involvement during questioning. A woman alleged to have been involved in luring Kyere to the location has also been arrested. Accounts of the total number of people in custody range from two to three; one report notes the woman’s mother is assisting police.

Kyere left behind a long-time partner who is reportedly pregnant. Fellow phone dealers from the Circle area have planned a solidarity walk to Police Headquarters calling for justice.

Picture of the victim: A commonly shared photo shows Nana Yaw Kyere seated in a beige armchair, wearing a white polo shirt and black shorts while holding a smartphone.

Picture related to the suspect: Circulating images identify Philip Tefe, including one of a man in a green military-style shirt outdoors and another of a bearded man in a Real Madrid jersey. Video footage has also circulated showing a woman being taken into police custody in connection with the case.

The full circumstances of the death, including the precise motive, remain under investigation. Many early details circulating online and in media reports are based on statements from family, friends, and unconfirmed leads. Official confirmation of charges and evidence is still pending from the Ghana Police Service. Investigations continue.
