*TITLE:* Osu Accra: 5 Things That Make Oxford Street The Heart Of Accra
*ARTICLE:*
My name is Prince and these are the things that makes me love OSU. I visited Osu last weekend and here are 5 things I saw that make it special.
Osu is one of the most famous places in Accra. If you live in Accra and you have never been to Osu, you have not seen Accra well. It is located just after the Black Star Square and close to the sea.
*1. Oxford Street Never Sleeps*
From morning till midnight, Oxford Street is busy. There are shops for clothes, phones, food, shoes, and everything you can think of. I saw many phone shops, fashion boutiques, and even bookshops. You can buy anything you want there. If you are looking for original sneakers or thrift wear, Oxford Street is the place. The street is always full of cars, people selling, and music playing from shops.
*2. The History Is Deep*
Osu was one of the first places the British stayed in Ghana. That is why you see the Osu Castle, also called Christianborg Castle, there. It was once the seat of government where our Presidents stayed. The castle was built in the 1660s. When you walk in Osu, you are walking in a place where Ghana's history was made. There are also old buildings that show you how Accra was before.
*3. Food Everywhere*
From street waakye to expensive restaurants, Osu has it all. If you have 10gh or 500gh, you will get something to eat. Papaye, KFC, and the local food sellers all live there. I bought waakye with 15gh near Koala supermarket and it was very delicious. There is also jollof, fried rice, kebab, and continental dishes. Whether you are a student or a worker, you will find food that fits your pocket.
*4. The Nightlife*
In the evening, Osu lights up. Many young people go there to chill, make friends and listen to music. It is the entertainment capital of Accra. There are pubs, lounges, clubs, and live band spots. Even if you don't drink, you can just sit and watch people and enjoy the lights. On weekends, the place is packed from 7pm till late.
*5. Different People, One Place*
In Osu you will see Ghanaians, Nigerians, Americans, Europeans - all walking on the same street. That is why it feels different from other parts of Accra. You will hear different languages, see different dressing styles, and meet new friends. It is a place that teaches you about the world without traveling.
If you have not been to Osu before, try and go this weekend. Take a trotro from Circle, Kaneshie, or Tema Station and tell the mate you are dropping at Oxford Street. Go with a friend so you enjoy it more.
Have you been to Osu before? What did you like about it? Comment about it.
