The Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Hon K.T Hammond has qualified the rejection of the 2022 budget by Parliament as unconstitutional; adding that Parliament will visit the discussion about the budget again on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
"The matter is alive. Parliament has not constitutionally rejected our budget. Meet us on the floor on Tuesday to deal with the question of the constitutionality of what has happened. The budget has not been rejected and we will revisit it,” he told Joy News’ Kwesi Parker-Wilson.
Yesterday, the house in a unanimous decision rejected the 2022 budget which was presented in Parliament by the Minister for Finance Hon Ken Ofori Atta.
Parliament rejected the budget after the majority walked out from the house leaving only the Minority.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Alban Bagbin proceeded with the business of the day in the absence of the majority saying their absence won't prevent Parliament from executing its business.
The speaker declared that the budget has been rejected after a voice vote in which the No's carried the day.
"The No’s have it. The motion is accordingly lost,” Alban Bagbin declared.
When Hon K.T Hammond was asked why the majority walked out of Parliament, he said that “we had to go out and reorganize a few things.”
He insisted that the ruling by the speaker us unlawful.
