The January transfer window is almost approaching, and the rumor mill was buzzing on Friday about Barcelona and a potential deal for Ferran Torres.
Everything appears to have started with reports that director Mateu Alemany was in Manchester for talks with Pep Guardiola's squad.
Barcelona has openly accepted that there is "no likelihood" of completing acquisitions in January, but the Catalans are now rumored to be interested in bringing in Torres. How, though, is a topic for another day.
Gerard Romero kicked things off by suggesting Barcelona were in talks with City about a move for the Spain international, and the reports have since taken off.
Torres joined City from Valencia in the summer of 2020 on a five-year deal for €23 million and is currently out injured with a fractured foot.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Torres "has already asked Guardiola to leave City" and wants to move to Camp Nou.
Pep is supposedly entirely fine with the 21-year-old returning to his previous club, as long as the two teams can reach an agreement.
Diario AS is also very pleased about Torres and believes he is the club's "big priority" this winter to strengthen the attack.
Negotiations are said to have begun "many weeks ago," and the board of directors sees Torres as the "star signing" required to "drive Xavi's new initiative."
It's a similar tale over at Diario Sport. There is talk of a "in principle agreement" with Torres to join in the winter. However, there is some skepticism, with the source stating that Barcelona must still persuade Man City that it is a smart idea.
