Twenty-five Ghanaian citizens who are unlawfully residing in Germany and have been caught are to be deported.
A notice from the Federal Republic of Germany to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, says that the deportees are expected to return to Ghana on November 15.
The notice assures the Minister that Germany will subject the 25 deportees to Covid-19 tests and will bear the costs.
According to the notice, those with Covid cases will be treated by Germany before they are deported after recovering while those who are Covid negative will be deported.
The deportees, the statement says, will be escorted by a doctor and members of the German Federal Police. The doctor will not exit the airplane upon arrival.
"With an international charter flight, twenty-five (25) Ghanaian nationals, living illegally in Germany will be repatriated to Ghana arriving on November 30, 2021. They will be accompanied by members of the German Federal Police and a medical doctor who will not leave the aircraft. A detailed list of the Ghanaian nationals to be repatriated will be forwarded immediately upon receipt by the Embassy," a part of the statement says.
