Manchester United believes that the impending arrival of Ralf Rangnick gives them an advantage in the summer transfer market for Erling Haaland. Haaland appears to be on his way out of Borussia Dortmund when his £63 million release clause kicks in.
A number of big European teams are said to be interested, but the £250 million price Mino Raiola is seeking for his client is likely to deter some potential bidders.
United is one of the few clubs with the financial clout to make a move for Haaland, and they now hope that Rangnick's arrival will give them an advantage. Rangnick is due to take over as United's interim manager this week, pending the resolution of work visa concerns, and will thereafter function as a consultant for the club until a new manager is chosen in the summer. Rangnick will next allegedly try to profit off his friendship with Erling Haaland and his father, Alfie, according to the Mirror.
Rangnick encouraged Haaland to join RB Salzburg while serving as the sporting director of Red Bull's two European teams.
Rangnick persuaded Haaland to join Salzburg from Molde in January 2019, before selling him to Dortmund for £18 million a year later.
