A glance back to a tiny speed bump in the road back in September as Chelsea prepares to face Manchester United in the Premier League today and keep their good winning momentum going.
In September, Chelsea suffered two consecutive defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Juventus, but they haven't lost a game in all competitions since, demonstrating a fantastic response to the minor setback.
It would be fantastic if you guys subscribed to my project, Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we're putting out a tonne of Chelsea content, including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, podcasts, interviews, inside knowledge, and bringing in some major guests! Tuchel has talked about a few modifications he and his coaching staff made after those two defeats in attempt to get back on track. Tuchel claims it wasn't about reacting furiously to his players; instead, they worked on a number of things, including their style of play, training changes, and their overall attitude toward the players.
Tuchel told Football London: "We adjusted our approach a little bit towards the team, changed a little bit in training, a little bit in our style of play." It wasn't about being enraged or blaming someone; it was about turning over every stone, which we did over the next few days. I recall trying to find the right balance by being honest, critical, but also supportive, and finding a path out of this that we believe in and that suits us in the coaching office. "We did it with the support of the team, with transparency and mindset." So that's why defeats exist. We hate to lose, but things happen, and we weren't performing at our best. " "It was the moment to shake things up, but not in a crazy way," he said. "We lacked a certain sharpness [against Juventus], didn't look very confident on this particular day, and we weren't happy with our performance and result. We did it in an open, critical, but also supporting manner in order to develop a fresh answer and provide a balance of structure and freedom in our game. The players performed admirably."
