Students and teachers at St Paul Roman Catholic Junior High School (JHS) in Tokuroano, Krachi East Municipality, Oti Region, have begun construction of a four-unit classroom building to promote teaching and learning.
The mud structure was built after repeated failed attempts to acquire the appropriate authorities to furnish them with a suitable location.
Academic activities are held under the shade of trees on the school grounds, which might be uncomfortable when the sun shines or when it rains.
During a visit by Adom News' Obrempongba K Owusu, the students built the edifice out of sun-baked mud bricks.
Obrempongba noticed that a three-unit classroom with its own office, which was being built to address infrastructural issues, had been abandoned to the elements.
In an interview with Bismark Alvin Ntimonesi, the school's assistant headteacher, he stated that when the new classroom block is ready, it will not only give comfort but also a favorable environment for successful teaching and learning.
He stated that education is critical to the development of every civilization, as it contributes to the physical, emotional, and intellectual potential of individuals.
Mr Ntimonesi has thus asked to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), corporations, and philanthropists both at home and abroad to come to their aid in order to secure the future of the small children.
Cynthia Seddy, a teacher, said it is always difficult to meet learning objectives for an academic year because classes are frequently interrupted by either rainfall or sun.
She begged with the government to build a suitable classroom building, ICT lab, bungalows, and office for the current generation of students as well as those yet to be born in the neighborhood.
Some of the students described the phenomenon as concerning, noting that classes are frequently canceled due to inclement weather. As a result, she appealed to authorities for immediate assistance.
