Government's plan to vaccinate over 20 million citizens by the end of 2021 may hit the rocks as data available suggest that less than 10% of the citizenry have taken the Covid-19 jab.

Factors including unavailability of vaccine, unwillingness to get the vaccine due to misconceptions and fear is the driving force that has hindered the plan to vaccinate a good number of Ghanaians by the end of 2021.

Across the world, a new variant of the virus is causing a rise in cases and deaths. Owing to this development, Government has in a press briefing warned Ghanaians to observe the safety protocols and also visit vaccination centers to take their jab.

In a press briefing at the Information Ministry, Director-general of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Kuma Aboagye announced that the Government of Ghana has taken delivery of 1.7 million doses of the Pfizer vaccines from the United States and will continue to vaccinate the populace at designated areas accross the country.

He indicated the vaccines are safe and admonished Ghanaians to take it.

In 2022, churches, schools, hotels, swimming pools and most public places will be opened to vaccinated people, he said.
