Manchester City has been linked with signing Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric in January, according to recent reports.
Modric's Real Madrid contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season. There has been talk of a contract renewal, but it appears to have stagnated.
Manchester City has emerged as a possible destination for the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner, according to SuperDeporte. He might possibly follow in the footsteps of Frank Lampard, a former Manchester City player. Lampard joined City from Chelsea for six months in 2014 before joining MLS club New York City FC.
Real Madrid is clearly attempting to develop a younger team for the future. Camavinga, an 18-year-old forward from Rennes, was signed in the summer. Many midfielders have been connected with them, including Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek. As a result, Real Madrid and Luka Modric are both considering their options for the coming months.
If this deal goes through, Modric will be a great addition for Manchester City. His relationship with Kevin De Bruyne has the potential to transform the midfield for the club. He also has Premier League experience, having spent four years with Tottenham Hotspur.
Modric has also been linked with a move to Newcastle United. However, a player of his calibre is unlikely to play for a club now trying to stay in the Premier League. Manchester City and Real Madrid both came out on top in their respective games over the weekend, with similar results.
In the Premier League, Manchester City defeated West Ham United 2-1. Meanwhile, Real Madrid defeated Sevilla in La Liga with the same result.
City cut the deficit at the top of the table to just one point after Chelsea drew 1-1 with Manchester United. Real Madrid, meanwhile, increased their lead over Barcelona at the top of La Liga to four points.
During the January transfer window, both teams are expected to make some significant moves, both in and out.
It would be intriguing to watch if the two clubs are able to sign their desired players and therefore improve their title chances.
