The majority leader in Parliament, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu says despite the conflict in the house over the rejection of the 2022 budget he is still in good relationship with the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Bagbin.
In an answer to a question in an interview on Kokrokoo on Peace FM observed by the Informant Online about whether or not he regrets the election of Alban Bagbin as the speaker of the house, the Minister of parliamentary affairs proclaimed that the activities in the house do not affect their relationship while admitting that nobody is perfect.
"The speaker has been my friend; I will not disown him.
But if he does anything wrong I must tell him what he has done is wrong. He left the country 3 days ago but before he left he and I had and discourse but i cannot reveal the subject of our discussion on air.
What now matters is for us to come together to resolve the issue" he said.
The Member of Parliament for Suame constituency has consistently castigated the speaker of Parliament for rejecting the 2022 budget in the absence of the majority saying the rejection is invalid.
Hon Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said the number of Minority present in the house didn't meet the requirement to take any serious decision like the rejection of the budget. Therefore it is unconstitutional.
Last Friday, the speaker rejected the budget after a voice vote which was participated by only the members of the Minority in Parliament.
This occurred as the majority walked out from Parliament out of anger over the presence of the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.
On the other hand, the Minority insists that budget rejection is legal.
