Madam Patrina Anthony, the National Health Insurance Scheme District Manager for Ashiaman, said that NHIS Card members can now visit the hospital immediately after registering or renewing their cards.

As part of the Scheme's annual weekly celebrations, this is a special bundle for NHIS subscribers.

"You can now renew and use your card today," she stated.

Madam Anthony went on to say that the NHIS has now taken into account the expense of treatment for childhood malignancies, which was previously a major financial hardship for parents and their families.

She claimed that the government has responded to the cries of parents and Ghanaians by taking action.

Madam Anthony stated this at a media interview at Ashiaman over the weekend as part of the NHIS Week celebrations, which had the subject "Expanding Access to Healthcare Using the Ghana Card."

She also revealed a strategy to link all Ghana-Card holders to National Health Insurance System (NHIS) cards for more effective and efficient healthcare across the country.

"Ghanaians could use their Ghana-Cards to renew their NHIS and gain access to healthcare," she added. "This will benefit the people of Ashaiman because the majority of them are poor."

Madam Anthony explained that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was bringing registration to various parts of Ashaiman to minimize the cost of transportation to Tema and the Ashaiman district office, allowing for more accessibility and affordability.

Dr. Alhasan Hanifa, Medical Director of Official Town Community Hospital, praised the government for included their facility in the NHIS, ensuring that high-quality healthcare was available to Official Town inhabitants.

He also praised the government for include childhood cancer treatment in the NHIS, citing the high cost of cancer management in Ghana.

Females can now access Family Planning Services using their NHIS Card, according to the Medical Director.

Since its inception, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has become the country's backbone of healthcare, with Ghanaians aged 18 to 70 paying only Ghc5 for renewal and Gh8.00 for a new card.

Others aged 18 to 69 must pay Gh27 to renew their card and Gh30 to get a new one.

In the meantime, renewal and new cards for pregnant women are completely free.
